Floyd McLean, Jr., originally from East Orange NJ, began his pre-professional dance training at the age of 13 at Sharron Miller’s Academy for The Performing Arts In Montclair, NJ. He has trained with residencies/intensives such as The Dance Theater of Harlem, Ballet Hispanico, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, NYU Future Dancers and Dance makers and Dallas Black Dance Theater.
After graduating, he continued his dance training at Point Park University with a Concentration in Modern Dance where he was awarded the Don Craig Scholarship. During his time in college, he has trained with and danced in works by Garfield Lemonius, Jason McDole, Kiesha Lalama, Joshua Peugh, Stephanie Batten-Bland, and other choreographers. He also found his love for choreography while enrolled in school. He received his Bachelors of Fine Arts from Point Park in 2018 and is currently dancing with Dallas Black Dance Theater: Encore!
Upon moving to Dallas, he has performed works by Rennie Harris, Katarzyna Skarpetowska, Christopher Huggins, My'kal Stromile and many more! He has also choreographed on DBDT: Encore. He has also performed with The Dallas Opera in their fall production of "Carmen" and The Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He is very excited to be in his second year with DBDT: Encore!
